I heard once that every little girl goes through a phase in which she loves horses. For me that never happened. I don't care one whit for them.
I've also heard that if you are born near the sea, the love for it will always live in your blood. I was born near desert mountains and have no affinity for the sea.
I gave this book a go because of the author, and the small chance there would be a paranormal element.
It began somewhat slowly for me. Between the horses and the sea, I had a hard time feeling compelled to like anything about it. Somehow through the course of my reading I realized I was enjoying both Puck and Sean. Steifvater has a distinct way of writing melancholia that is sad yet comfortable. Between the underlying saddness and the decent characters (which still could have been developed deeper), I liked 'The Scorpio Races'.
