The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera, the classic that it is, has been ubiquitous, even found in the most mundane situations. However, i recently, to my misfortune, just watched the musical film version. The film left me hanging and I HAD to find out more. The book was just the solution to my problem.
Although there were many altered scenarios in the movie, the book was able to clear it all out for me. Especially in terms of the characters.
In movies, Raoul was not given the appropriate story he deserved. He lacked everything but his handsome self undeserving of Christine as compared to O.G. The book entitles you to a better Raoul, the sad, seemingly helpless romantic who only wishes to be near his first and only love. Unlike most representations of the story, the book justifies the emotions and actions that Raoul took, although he really was quite helpless at ends.
The Phantom was even better. The story was known to be one of horror, but i just didn't catch that element in the musical productions. In the book, Erik upholds his tagline: the Phantom. He is twisted, disoriented, a lunatic, but nevertheless, one who knows how to love.
A classic to be read and has been read throughout time.
