A stranger barges into a mystery readers book club meeting in Ashton Corners, Alabama and is later found dead outside the home where the club had met. Now Lizzie Turner, Molly Mathews, and the other members of the book club are the main target of the investigation. The friends set out to do some investigation of their own to find the real culprit. Molly then starts having break-ins and small thefts from her home and Lizzie is getting strange phone calls and even chapters from a book manuscript from an unknown source. Could these unusual events be tied to the murder?

I really loved this debut in the new Ashton Corners Book Club series. Each chapter begins with a quote from a different mystery, with classic and new mysteries represented, that ties into the events of the chapter. The book club members are likeable, support each other in their reading and in their lives. The book is fun and fast-paced and the investigation and solution believeable. There is a hint of romance for Lizzie, as well as her good friend Sally-Jo. As a bonus, there is a reading list of five mysteries for each of the book club members that cover a wide variety of mysteries. Fans of Denise Swanson's Scumble River series will like the small town setting and Lizzie's job helping both young and older students improve their reading skills. The references to popular mysteries is well-down and reminds me of Carolyn Hart's "Death on Demand" series. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one in the series.
