The Stand is an epic adventure story, comparable in size and scope to books like The Lord of the Rings. (I should clarify: this book isn't about hobbits or elves; it's about the superflu killing off 3/4 of the human population, and the resulting battle between good and evil with the survivors as pawns.)

This book was very long, but well worth the read. I felt it had a few hard-to-keep-going lulls in the middle of the story, but overall they were worth it because of the phenomenal character development that Stephen King is well known for. At the end of this story, I felt like I personally knew the characters.

I didn't particularly love the ending of the story, but the climax/turning point was really great. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
