This is a very sad story, mostly because of the demise of the author Lucy Grealy. She was a good writer. She had a sense of humor that at first I took as sarcasm, but came to like her attitude. I noted on the back of the book, about the author, that she died in 2002. I assumed the cancer had returned and took her life. In doing a little research I learned she died of an overdose of heroin of all things. She developed an addition to the pain meds she had been taking to cope with the surgeries she had which eventually caused her to turn to heroin. Very sad. She seemed like a nice person who deserved so much more out of life. I would recommend this book.
