Twenty years later, Edward Said's clear-eyed view of academic debates, and the way those debates spill over into unexpected areas, like foreign policy, is still extremely valuable. This book is a classic of postcolonial theory, and contains Said's famous essay on Jane Austen.

I wish he were still around--I'd love to hear him talk about the "Arab Spring."
