Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power
by Rachel Maddow
by Rachel Maddow
Rachel Maddow a brilliant and articulate television news personality who happens to also have a doctorate in Political Science pulls together the threads of how America has waged its stealth wars over the past forty years since Vietnam. Using solid research and her unmistakable narrative voice Maddow takes the reader through how Americans have become disconnected by the conflicts that are waged by numerous deployments of National Guard and private companies for hire like Blackwater and Halliburton. By calling attention to the angst that we feel but cannot name, she helps us understand how far we have "drifted" and posits some ways to get back on track. Regardless of your political persuasion, Rachel Maddow makes an important case for paying much closer attention. There is an important lesson here for all of us- we better begin to pay more careful attention. Ironically Maddow dedicated her book to Dick Cheney, undoubtedly one of the chief architects of "drift".
