Great book, an excellent insight into the life of a stray dog. I actually read the sequel, Everything for a Dog, first, which made for an interesting read. I like the structure of this story better, but I like the actual story of that one more. I do wish there had been a bit more of a crossover in terms of how both ended, but it wasn't particularly necessary to either story. It just would have made for a nice wrap-up.

If you're looking for a Babysitter Club-style Martin book, this isn't it. But the craft is wonderful, and I really grew to care about the characters - mostly the dogs. It was also interesting to watch the insights into people, particularly how they respond to stray dogs.

I listed this on my list as both "children" and "young adult," but I think it really falls somewhere in the middle, in the 8-12 range.
