Blood, guts and swords - masterful battle-drama from Joe Abercrombie. Realistic and unflinching depiction of a three day battle between the North and the Union in a fictitious world. Constant threat of death brings out the best and worst of the protagonists - glory, futility, stupidity, greed, duty, boredom, routine, blind obedience and blind ambition. All have their reasons for fighting. Nobody expects to die - almost everybody does.
