This was a wonderful book. Long, rambling delicious Irish sentences as an elderly woman grieved for her lost grandson and remembered the other losses in her long life journey, from Ireland to America (Canaan's side). I didn't guess the ending... not that it would have mattered, as the pleasure of the book is the journey. This is literary fiction at it's best: an accessible page turner. I bought it on Kindle and then bought the real book so I can have the author sign it when I hear him at the Auckland Writers' and Readers' Festival next month!
