This book was a GoodReads/First Reads book.

I was old enough in 1963 to remember the events of November, but not old enough to really appreciate or understand what it all meant. This book by Clint Hill did a great job of "humanizing" the Kennedys (especially Jackie Kennedy) during their time of service as President and First Lady.

Clint Hill was a Secret Service agent who was part of the team assigned specifically to Jackie Kennedy.

He tells of how he helped "Mrs. Kennedy" during that time, protecting her and trying to meet her need for privacy and a "normal" life amid all the public attention, being the wife of the President.

The story is told with feeling and honesty. It helped me to see the Kennedys as "normal" people in the sense that those who are "blessed" by wealth or fame are like the rest of us....very human. The story also made those who work in the Secret Service "human" as well, and giving up much of their personal lives in service to others. The story makes only occasional reference to Agent Hill's off the job life, but it is obvious his family was/is important to him as well.

All in all, a very good read, full of emotion and meaning. Well done!
