really liked it
Read from April 03 to May 22, 2012

I'm half way through this and am enjoying it - though not as much as 'Excellent Women'. I think it's because Jane strikes me as such a 'smug married' - though I realise she is kind.

Yesterday morning I was reading the passage where Jane goes up to London to meet her friend for lunch, arrives early, and wanders into what is obviously Fortnum and Mason, to kill time. She looks at a display of Foie Gras and exclaims to the besuited assistant at the price. The smallest size is 14 shillings and ninepence, which is roughly 70p in decimal coin. In a weird mirroring of this, yesterday lunchtime I went to meet a friend in Fortnum's, arrived early, and made it my business to find how out how much the tiniest tin of foie gras is now. I found a big display, and the teeniest tin was £25. Wow.
