I had the pleasure of meeting the author of this charming book while on vacation this summer. She spoke at a luncheon that I attended where the dessert was, but of course, Dilly Bars. Ms. Gilmore's characters are delightful. From Catherine Grace who goes off to Atlanta when she graduates from high school to Gloria Jean who loves red nail polish and is her surrogate mother. Cahterine Grace leaves her father and sister Martha Ann at home but comes home when there is a family emergency. This is Ms. Gilmore's first book and I think there will be many more. Lee Smith was her English teacher and is now her mentor.
