This novelette was an interesting look into the realities of mail order brides coming to America from Japan--starting from what these young girls and women expected versus what they really experienced as new wives, mothers, and contributors. The author uses various paragraph lengths and rapidity of sentences which, in totality, portray numerous characterizations of the Japanese immigrant population through their life stages. In this style, the author helps the reader learn "hundreds" of details in very few pages. I think it was a good method for enlightening the reader to this era in our nation's history.
