Nice start to a series. I've read a later book in the series, although I don't really remember too much about it. In this book, we meet Claire, a new priest sent to a small New England town, and Russ, the local sheriff. The two like each other, which is a problem since Russ is married. Their friendship makes a nice subplot.

The mystery involves a baby left on the church doorstep, two murders, and lots of secrets hidden behind the seemingly nice folks who attend Claire's church. The mystery is solved at the end of the book, but the relationship between Claire and Russ leaves us hanging for book 2.

I liked Claire, an ex-Army helicopter pilot now a priest. I especially liked her surprise and unhappiness with her first northern winter. The weather is almost another character in the book. Claire is reminded several times in the story that other people aren't the only thing that can cause her death.

This is a nice mix of a police procedural and a cozy.
