Crais wrote this book with a different style from the other Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books. The story is much more intense and it looks as if Elvis (The world's greatest detective) may have gotten himself into a situation he may not get out of.

The story starts simply enough a woman hires Cole to find her daughter that is getting ready to graudate from college. She has received a ramson demand but it is so small that she decideds her daughters good for nothing boy friend put her up to it.

Well, Elvis finds out that isn't not the case it is about as serious as it can get; in fact he brings Joe Pike in right away.

Other authors have used this style of writing before but, I don't remember another Crais book like it. It was interesting to read something a little different.

A good read if you like this type of book - and I do.
