Charlaine Harris seems to be phoning it in for this one. There's enough story here for a novella, maybe, but that's being generous. The rest is padding, and it's maddening. Worse, it's boring. Sookie seems to be devolving into an even simpler, more self-righteous version of the person she was twelve books ago, and it's becoming as hard to read as Twilight was.

The thing is, though, that I want to know how the series is going to end; I guess that's what reading twelve books in a series does to you.

Ideally, the next book will be the last. Sookie will marry Sam, because that way she can have kids and love someone who will grow old with her, and . . . Eric and Bill can get vampire-married and become Louisiana's first couple.

A girl can dream.
