I'm not sure who I could recommend this to, but it is very much what it is. If you can get behind a slow exploration of intrigue in a fictional castle, in which characters like Swelter, Flay, Prunesquallor, and Sourdust jockey for social position amidst piles of rust and mold, you should probably read this book. It's witty and sad.

There are also passages of startling beauty and power, but you have to tolerate endless descriptions of forests and rain to get to them.
