bookshelves: cowboys-ranchers, westerns-historical, mission-aborted
Read in August, 2008

This book went into my 'Purgatory' shelf where I send the books that didn't even get finished. Depending on the 'credits' or good reviews it gets, Sam's Creed may get a second chance sometime in the future.

To be fair, the only reason why I've abandoned Sam's Creed is because I got stuck at the deflowering scene. Sam took so bloody long to do the deed and I didn't have time to read that many pages in one sitting so it was like days and Sam was still at foreplay! Based on what little I've read, Caine's Reckoning was much better but I haven't totally given up on Sam and may take him out again one day. I like Sam but the heroine is just so-so. I'd yet to see a trait that warmed me to her but I gave up rather early so all I got was a virgin trying to unload her virginity and I tend to find such heroines annoying.

If I didn't have any other books to read, I guess I would have stuck it out (flip the pages, at least) but unfortunately, I happened to buy JD Robb's first book, Naked in Death, and the pacing was worlds apart. For all I know, Sam's Creed could turn out to be an action-packed page-turner. So, if I read more good reviews giving me reasons why I should retrieve it then I may.

Auntee Love that shelf name--purgatory! Sort of balancing between heaven & hell--the keeper shelf or the bottom of the TBR pile!:)

Eastofoz LOL on the "Purgatory" shelf Elaine ;)

Laura Oh, how funny! That is my only complaint with McCarty. Her sex scenes are so chatty and span for chapters sometimes until the mood is totally gone and I am too exhausted/bored to enjoy the deed when it finally happens. I thought I was the only one person bothered by this! Glad to see I'm not. ROFL

ElaineY Laura, if I'd been reading that chapter with a vibrator in my hand, I'd have needed an extra pack of batteries! Have you read Nikita Black's Slave To Love? Or Kaitlyn O'Connor's The Spawning? Slave was very good and the latter's on my top-5-to-read list.

Laura Yup, Elaine, you would have needed a jumbo pack of batteries for sure. You crack me up!! LOL

No, I haven't read the two novels you mentioned but they are going on my TBR list ASAP. Thanks for the rec!

ElaineY But you've read Devil's Pact after Auntee's "rec" of The Cannon, haven't you, Laura? Can't miss THAT western historical erotica!

Laura Hi, Elaine!

I just posted my review of "Devil's Pact" this morning. Check it out. Oh, yeah...The Cannon. What a hoot! ROFL

Although I did like Devin a lot. You're right, very good Western erotica novel for sure.

Laura Hi, Elaine (big wave!)--

One star, huh? How funny! I did read this one last month and once again, McCarty drove me insane with her snail's pace for the sex scenes. As I have said many times she does a better job with novellas IMO, because her pace has to be faster.

What can I say? I'm a fast-pace junkie as well as a snappy-dialogue junkie when it comes to the novels I read and those I write. Some of my readers say they finished my latest novel (Call of the Witches) in one afternoon. They didn't want to put it down and finished it in like three hours. Hey, a junkie like me considers that a compliment! *grin*

Pamela(AllHoney) While I do agree the sex scenes were long and chatty, I did enjoy the story itself. I'm a bit of a speed reader and if the scene is too much for me I can skim through without losing too much info. A REALLY good book will have me reading excruciatingly slow.

Laura I'm so glad you said that, Pamela!! I am terrible about skimming when I get to long passages of boring prose or silly/chatty dialogue or McCarty's sex scenes. And you're right. It was a good story with a wonderful HEA. When I finished it I kept thinking how awesome it would have been if she could have cut out about 100 pages of excess stuff that wasn't important to the plot.
