Overall, "Magic Bites" was an average urban fantasy. The heroine, Kate Daniels, is as hardcore and romantically retarded as most of the UF leads are. There are a lot of interesting characters here - necromancers, vampires, shape shifters, and other magical type folk. These characters inhibit a post-apocalyptic magical world with a bunch of powerful organizations. As you can tell, there was a lot of world-building going on in this novel. This paired with some sub par editing, made "Magic Bites" difficult to sometimes follow and enjoy. Although I'm slowly starting to get bored with this genre, if you're looking for urban fantasy series to start read, then you might as well pick this up.
