Read in March, 2007

This book will work its way into your heart and never leave. The characters are so very real, and their adventures are spellbinding and heartwarming. As usual, the main character (Quoyle) is less interesting than the supporting characters.

Speaking of characters, the island of Newfoundland itself is a character here in its own right. The weather, the seasons, the landscape - all affect the people who live there.

I won't go into the plot here, but I will say that this is a page-turner and a book that is very hard to put down. It's charming and unforgettable.

I'm not sure exactly when I read this. I think it was in March of 2007, but it may have been April. Either way, I read it in 2007.

Favorite part: The party for Nutbeem. No spoilers here, but you'll howl with laughter at poor Nutbeem's plight.

Favorite character: Billy Pretty. He's as much a part of the land as the land is a part of him.
