After the smash up ending of the last Lee Child book, 61 Hours, I really didn't know what to expect of the next. Turns out, The Affair is a trip into the Reacher's past, the backstory of his separation from the service.

As always, Reacher's a really good character, and the first person pov is particularly effective. He's in Carter Crossing, Mississippi in 1997, the ouside man on an inside investigation into the murder of a beautiful woman. There's a love interest of course, with the local sheriff, another stunningly beautiful woman, and a midnight train that sets the structure and timing of the work.

Heard rumors that Brad Pitt will play Reacher, and that just doesn't fit. Hope the rumor is just that.
