OK. Done with the first section.
This is Michael Chabon at the top of his game. He gets the music right. (Except for an error in radio stations.)I find that I can read Michael's books twice for the first time. The first for an incredible story, and the second for the some of the best use of the English language today. Finally, the best part about this book, is that a Seriously Regarded Author is writing about the left coast. I work in a store that sells new and used books, and the culture is exactly the same.

I'm not quite sure how to describe this, but I'm so involved in reading this book, that I find myself noticing things and people on the street where i work, (Clement st) in the style of this book. There's only one other author where that's happened: Jonathan Carroll. This is a great book.

Finished. This book greatly exceeded my expectations, and I expect a great deal from Mr Chabon. Buy this book. It's the best thing he's written. (He has gotten better with each novel he's written).
Buy it

Michael Chabon is a Rara Avis, an author who gets better with each book he writes. In Telegraph Avenue he gives us a masterpiece set on the left coast, where words are used as weapons, and betrayals long thought buried come back with a vengeance.

Michael Chabon is one of the very rare authors who could write the phone book and make it worth reading. If I saw 'The Bakersfield Phone Book by Michael Chabon', I would pick it up without hesitation, knowing I had a great story to look forward to.

Jennifer What is the error in radio stations?

Martin Hi Jennifer: Somewhere early on in the book, one of the characters is listening to a Basie song on KSJO. KSJO was never (to the best of my knowledge) a radio station that played jazz. Since KJAZ went off the air in the 90's, KCSM is the only bay area jazz station. And a great one.

Tammy Wow, a comparison to Johnathan Carroll? I'm dying to read this.
