The reason I picked up this book? Because I discovered that he thinks I made it safe for librarians to be "sluts"....

Leif Erik That's safe now?

Linda Hey--aren't you supposed to be cavorting across the Outback with thick-thighed Aussie chicks?

message 3: by Roger (new)

Roger The discussion thus far seems to me beside the point. _Library_ is a telling account of librarianship by a man who, having attended one of the premier school of library science in the country, finds that the ideals of humanistic inquiry and civilized living are ignored by one of the very centers supposed to sustain them. The tone is correspondingly disappointed, wincingly humorous, and outraged.

Anyone who has spent time in public libraries will recognize the ambiance that Akey presents. Anyone who values learning, artistic expression, and broad egalitarianism in the pursuit of these will love the book and in Akey's voice find the sympathy of a true confrere.

Linda But he still said I made it safe for us to be sluts--
