Becky ("Twig") tells a story that was difficult for me to read. She was abused at every turn by her "broken" mother; just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. She coped the best a child and teen probably could. I couldn't decide how I really felt about her relationship with her stepfather - it didn't seem unbelievable, just a little weird. Rather than seeming contrived at the end, the spot of redemption for Becky, was absolutely necessary for my soul.
