If you're like me and desperate for more in the Elemental series while waiting for 'Spark' to be released, you should definitely give 'Fearless' a go. Told from the perspective of Hunter Garrity, we get to see a snapshot of what his life was like before 'Storm'.

Hunter is a reserved teen, keeping a separate life from his classmates because of his Elemental magic. Tormented by the "popular" kids for not being like them, he's spent his teen years trying to ignore the boys who think attacking him is a fun after school activity. But when Clare, a girl in his year at school, shows an interest in him, suddenly there's more to life than just trying to impress his father and fight the local school thugs.

I really enjoyed 'Fearless' and seeing into Hunter's life before he came to be the new kid in 'Storm'. We'd heard stories of his family life, but seeing it first hand made you sympathise with him a bit more. Despite all the training and information he seemed to have about Elementals and their possibility for destruction, his father wasn't spent more time restricting his involvement in anything Elemental-related. I just wanted to give him a big hug. And then, for the first time he feels like someone in his life is seeing him for who he really, but it results in more issues than he ever thought possible.

My only problem is that I feel like I should have brushed up on Hunter's history before reading this novella. Part of me feels like the timelines are all messed up and I feel like I've forgotten bits of the story that leads up to Hunter's involvement in 'Storm'. But it didn't make the novella any less enjoyable and I loved being inside Hunter's head again.

I'm looking forward to reading more in this series and I especially can't wait for Hunter's book next year. He's a character you can't get enough of.
