Recommended for gr. 6-up. The story takes place in Uganda under Idi Amin. While there is little graphic violence, the situation could be disturbing. Amin has ordered that all non-African Ugandans leave the country. Fifteen-year-old Sabine and her family are Ugandan citizens, but they are from India, follow Indian customs and lead a fairly privileged life. Tensions separate Sabine from her African Ugandan best friend as they struggle with the consequences of Amin's order. Each chapter is headed with the countdown of days to Amin's deadline for the Indians to be gone, which adds to the tension of the book.
