I'm not sure this is my favorite book but it is for sure the one I read, buy (in french, in english, in german), give the most often because I lose it physically or because someone is losing mind. There is still those little seconds of doubts when you recommend it to someone else because the reading experience of this book is so personal. The form is both neutral and total. You enter in the book's multiplicity as you enter in the maze of your own desire. It's the perfect thing to give for both declaring and breaking up. You finally hope the ones with whom you have shared the book will do the same and then you-we will be part of a secret loverhood secret society sharing the same silent language.

Jess Can't agree more with what you said about recommending it. It's far too personal a read - but it is compelling to discover that others feel the same personal connection to Barthes' philosophy.
