Odd Apocalypse

This entry was enough to give me the satisfaction of being in Odd Thomas' world after such a long wait, but it could have been so much more. The character of Odd Thomas and the promise of the first book in the series are what keep me coming back.
In "Odd Apocalypse," Odd finds himself staying at the creepy estate Roseland after Annamaria, Odd's enigmatic traveling companion, charms the estate's owner into inviting them for a visit. Annamaria has told Odd that he has something he needs to do at Roseland, and soon mayhem ensues.
My main beef is that this book is centered more around science fiction than around ghostly happenings, which doesn't seem quite fair to the reader since Odd sees dead people, for crying out loud. Also, Odd spends most of the novel running around Roseland like a chicken with its head cut off, and I became weary of his trek all over the estate. In addition, no real progress is made on any of Odd's ongoing problems - Stormy's death, Annamaria, or the bodachs.
Still, I was glad to spend time with the endearing Odd and look forward to the next installment. There's just something about the character that keeps me coming back to see what happens to him.
