Had I read this when I was 16, I'd have declared it one of the greatest books of all time. I still liked it very much, but I've read too much YA to have been surprised by the ending, which I think dulled the impact somewhat. That said, i love Green's writing, both generally and specifically in this book, and I love that his characters are not flawless. It's good to have portrayals of cancer patients that doesn't (as Hazel Grace explains) turn them all into beatified perfect angels who never complain or get upset. (The trophy-smashing scene was a real highlight for me.) I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the movie.
