I am re-reading Anna Karenina for perhaps the fourth time. It is one of those books that requires that of its readers. It is, after all, one of Tolstoy's best as well as most profound works, mainly because it so succinctly summarizes Tolstoy's personal conclusion that "passion destroys." And destroy it does in the story of Anna Karenina, whose love for the dashing Count Vronsky results in the loss of her good name, her children, her homeland, and, ultimately, Count Vronksy and her own life. It is a tragic tale of one woman's downfall and all in the name of love.
