This novel inspired by The Secret Garden, was a little too much like that book for me to get into too much. A young girl's parents die and she is sent to live with an aloof uncle on a remote island. He is away much of the time and she is able to explore. No surprise--she finds a secret garden that was built for her uncle's late wife. And--also no surprise--she hears screams in the night and follows them until she finds a boy somewhat close to her in age that is wasting away. Too much of the old and not enough to set it apart.
