An enjoyable romp through Victorian Egypt, with a rough-edged hero (Harry Braxton) and a tempestuous heroine (Desdemona Carlisle, otherwise known as Dizzy). Of course the two have a history; of course the novel begins with them "despising" each other; of course they'll end up with a happily-ever-after. The enjoyment comes from watching them get there.

The scene where Harry compares Dizzy to Egypt is truly romantic (trust me), as is the scene where he gives her a mirror inscribed with a love poem (Dizzy doesn't realize that Harry can, in fact, read hieratic script and knows exactly what the mirror "says.")

Overall a fun fast read.
