an amazing and emotional book with drama, pain and sadness. its about a boy who was growing up in a time of war but thinking that it wasn't going to effect their small island in the Carribian but a nazi submarine starts to bomb the boats in the small town scared his mother and him self tries to flee but their boat gets bombed and he gets hit in the back of the head when they try to escape from the sinking ship he wakes up to find a black man sitting next to him on a small raft they float for days until they see a small island and decide it was going to be the place where they will stay until someone would come for them the boy had becoame blind from an unknown cause he learnt how to live on the island and the black man helping in his weird ways then a freak storm came and after the storm the black man dies and the boy is stuck there for many months on his own until an American ship finds him on the island and he returns home to his parents blind

all in all i say it is a must read book.
