A very serious Captain Wentworth is the hero of this Austen spinoff, set just before he meets Anne Elliot again and up to Louisa's accident. There are some interesting scenes with his fellow Captains Harville & whatsis, somewhat reminiscent of Jasper Fforde's book world people but more wooden. It's nice to think about what was going on with Austen's heroes, but this one makes the character so serious I don't think he belongs even in Persuasion, which I always think of as the most serious Austen. The need to divide this up into two parts is a mystery to me, and since my library doesn't have the other half, I will have to content myself with my knowledge of what happened in Persuasion from Anne's POV instead of Wentworth's. Seafaring info was interesting.
