really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy

I tend to forget how much of book 5 is spent on recap and traveling from one place to another, but when it does get going, it packs a lot of punch. Moiraine gets to be awesome, and Mat becomes so in spite of himself, and Asmodean and Melindhra provide interesting, twisty subplots. Nynaeve learns some unwelcome lessons, and Egwene reaches her most annoying point - she's self-righteous, nosy, bossy, and a huge hypocrite. In book 3, she was bratty but had the excuse of just having gone through a huge trauma, and later on she's still bossy and self-righteous but has begun to grow into actually knowing what she's talking about and being worth listening to. Here, she's just irritating.

So, slow to start, but focuses a lot on my favorite characters (Mat and Nynaeve), and has some fantastic confrontations, so still packed with good stuff.
