I'm really kinda disappointed in this one. I was so excited to read another SEP book, I stayed up until midnight to buy it on my nook (actually, I got it 11:45pm!) and then read the first few chapters. It started off pretty good, but when Lucy decides to keep running instead of talking to her parents, or even Ted to explain, I lost all respect for her then.

I understand she's going through a crisis, but I found it completely immature to duck everyone. A few days, even two weeks is fine. But months? No, you are the daughter of the POTUS and you know better than that. Ted at least deserved a better explanation, even if she couldn't verbalize it there are better ways to say you've had a change of heart and then flee. Panic is one thing, but a civilized adult, especially the daughter of the President, should be able to handle telling a man she can't marry him in a semi-rational matter. Then to jump on the back of a motorcycle with some stranger? We know he's the hero, but Lucy doesn't. It shows more bad judgment and unfortunately it doesn't stop there.

Deciding to try and disguise herself, she goes for a goth-punk-skank look wearing trashy clothes, and calling herself Viper. Really? I find it hard to believe someone who's been in cardigans and pearls could just jump into a lime green fishnet tutu that barely covers her ass and fake tattoos. No self consciousness, all of sudden she feels like a badass.

Then there's Panda aka Patrick, but rarely does anyone call him that. Panda is not a great name, but if there had been any explanation to the nickname, like his baby brother Curtis use to call him that, or guys in his military unit gave him the nickname, I think it could have worked. With no explanation it just sounds weird. Other than that, he's okay. The whole PTSD thing didn't really gel with me. He's afraid of hurting someone, but he can be a bodyguard?

I also didn't like that we don't get to hear his POV very often. This happened in SEP's last book, and I'm beginning to wonder if this is a new style for her. One of the reasons I have really loved SEP is because I like seeing the hero's POV, she's good at making them funny and well, completely male (aka neanderthals).

The remaining characters didn't impress me much either. I'm hoping SEP is done with Wynette connection books, I'm ready for something totally fresh from her.
