It feels wrong to rate this book so low-- this was her life, and I absolutely commend her for having the courage to write her story and not allow her kidnappers to hold any power.

Unfortunately, the book felt shallow and just.. wasn't very good. I understand that she only had a fifth grade education and in many ways is still stuck on a childlike emotional level, and because of that I wasn't expecting mind-blowing writing, but I feel that the story could have benefited from a little help. I agree with the other reviews that mentioned how an editor or ghost-writer could have taken the vagueness out of the story and made it have much more of an emotional impact.

It does read more like a therapeutic journal assignment than an actual memoir, and there's nothing wrong with that, really (if it helped her, that's great) but it wasn't what I was expecting.
