It was refreshing to read this installment of TWoT. There's very little braid pulling, less skirt straightening, less well turned calves, you know, all the trite repetitive thing Jordan clung to that made me want to scream at him in previous books. I'm not saying there's not *any* of that, but it's been tamed down a lot. The book is a lot tighter, too, even if nothing much really happens. This is probably more of an Egwene book, she gets a chance to be plotty and politely hand their asses to a bunch of Aes Sedai, so that was interesting. Still, there's a lot of riding around and talking and some battles but the main plot feels like it moved forward very little.

Tight and enjoyable if you're already invested in the characters and set on finishing the series. I can't imagine anyone jumping in on this book, though. Not that I would jump in at book 8 of a series, anyway? But there you go.
