I really wanted to rate this 3.5 stars, but unfortunately I can't rate in decimals. I loved the Belgariad, but in this book there are some bits where the story is so dull that I can hardly continue, and some parts so exciting that I can't put it down. The storytelling is incredibly inconsistent, and there are so many characters I can hardly keep track of them. For example: (view spoiler)["Garion stared, suppressing a gasp of surprise. The man standing before the altar was Harakan."
Exciting revelation! Except that I don't remember who Harakan is. That was a bit of a let-down. (hide spoiler)]
Still, 'Demon Lord of Karanda' had its good points, and I'm definitely going to finish the rest of the series. I'd still recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the other works of David Eddings.
