Jack Cole is an FBI consultant who comes home to take care of his elderly father when his health begins to fail and when a horrible murder takes place just outside of town, he's called on to help solve the crime. It's a gruesome crime, one that leaves you with a sick feeling in your stomach at the reminder that there are people who are capable of that kind of thing. To make matters worse, there's a huge storm on its way.
Cole is a fantastic lead character. He's dark and flawed with a past he can't escape and it makes him different from a lot of the other crime novel heroes. I will warn that the murder descriptions are graphic so this book is not for the faint-hearted but it's definitely worth the read. The plot moves along at a good pace for the reader to follow along and try to solve the murder along with Cole but the ending, oh that ending is a jaw dropper.
