What a disappointment. I LOVE John Irving and usually rush right out and buy his books whenever they are published. However, I struggled enough with the last one, Last Night in Twisted River, that I waited and checked this one out from the library instead. I'm soooo glad I did. Fifty pages into the book I found myself thinking, this book is kind of boring, 150 pages in, I was like well I've read to much to just give up now, but it still stinks. I admit there was a slight upturn during the third quarter of the book, but by the last quarter it had fallen back off. I just found it to be depressing, confusing, unrealistic, and pointless. This topic, and this author both deserve so much better than this book.
