"Thirteen Reasons Why," by Jay Asher, is a young adult mystery novel about why a teenage girl has decided to commit suicide. After her death she has cassette tapes delivered to 12 people who have somehow aided in her reasoning so that they can all understand how their actions impacted her awful decision.
I loved this book. I have never read a format quite like this. Asher writes the story from two voices: Hannah (the girl who committed suicide) through the cassette tapes and Clay (one of the people who has received the tapes). Both of their stories are intertwined, which ends up giving the complete story by the end. It is suspenseful, sad, realistic, and very thought-provoking. Although I am not a young adult, it definitely made me reconsider how my actions impact others' lives.
