The Lorax tells the story of the Oncler who finds a beautiful forest fool of wonderful Truffula Trees. He then takes advantage of the forest and begins cutting down the Truffula Trees to make and sell thneeds. As his business and factories grow, the number of Truffula trees shrinks and the Lorax is forced to make all of the animals leave because of the pollution caused by the Oncler's thneed factories. This is an excellent book to use to teach kids about the effects of pollution and deforestation. Because it is a Dr Seuss book, it will engage the students more than a book that is directly teaching about these topics.
