** spoiler alert ** I really like reading the novel version of this book because it's one of those timeless classics so when I saw this book, I was quite sceptical of reading it as not many graphic novels do justice to their original novel.

I am glad to say, I was completely wrong, this book does a great job of visually representing Middle-Earth as well as keeping to the novel and dare I say it, improve it... in some cases, what do I mean? In the novel, the author doesn't describe how each character looks because he wants everyone to have their own way version of the character in their head, this book definitely sets the look and feel of them in stone as a drawings are required. This is both good and bad as in my opinion he did a good job with Bilbo but utterly failed with Gollum, one of my favourite characters in literature due to his complexity.

My favourite quote from this book is surprisingly not in the book, it is one said by Gandalf and gave me a new insight on what to do with my life "Before I say farewell my dear Bilbo, always remember, to live your life you mustn't be afraid of a little risk". This also happens to be what a learned from this book as it means before you die, you should life you life to its full potential in order to be truly happy.

This book will go on the graphic novel board on my bingo board.
