Read from March 25 to April 16, 2012

Couldn't get past Page 19 or so. It's not you, Haruki, it's me, OK? I just think, you know, what I felt for you all those years ago has somehow changed. What seemed fresh and endearing, now seems over-long, full of exposition and, you know, dull. I think it would help if we maybe had time away from each other. Just for a bit, maybe. And, you know, if you wanted to see other editors, I'm cool with that. No, I really am cool with that. But we are still friends, OK? It's not you, it's me, OK?

Kevin That bad, eh? I wasn't really inspired to dig into that one, may keep it that way

Patrick Sherriff I really do think it's more just me. Maybe my tastes have changed. And it's unfair to write off a book based only on the first 19 pages. Perhaps it's only fair to say it didn't grab me.

Jen I'd say it's him. But really, his books are all soft porn about longing for young women hot for older guys. Not a fan.
So happy to see someone else in Japan who isn't a crazed fan.

Patrick Sherriff Damn, if I'd known there were gonna be some nubile young women after old farts (like me) I might have given him a second chance...

Sadie Heilemann I've only read one of Murakami's books: Norwegian Wood. It fits the "soft porn" description IMO and I was lukewarm on it. Not sure I'll continue but if I find one cheap I might give him another chance on the Zen factor.
