Any book under 500 pages that takes me more than a week to read is probably not all that good. I was looking forward to learning more about Rhett Butler and the story of the man who tames Scarlett O'Hara, as much as Scarlett can be tamed; but the author is in such a hurry to get to retelling GWTW that we don't really learn more about Rhett at all. Sure, there are a 100 or so pages about young Rhett but the story seems rushed or I found it boring and rushed through reading it...I think McCaig was too concerned with providing a story for every minor character from GWTW and therefore we didn't really get strong, interesting character developments for any of them. I enjoyed Rosemary, Rhett's sister, and Belle, Rhett's "questionable" friend, but otherwise the stories were weak, uninteresting, or off the mark. I suggest everyone read GWTW but this is one "authorized" prequel/sequel you can skip.
