Before Rosa Parks there was Claudette Colvin. As a young teenager, Claudette bravely refused to give up her seat for a white lady on a segregated bus. She was arrested as a result. Her actions were a spark in the civil rights movement and were historically significant, although often overlooked. This fabulous non-fiction book gives us the story of Claudette Colvin and the huge part that she played in the overturning of segregation laws in Alabama. It was a great read and would be an effective way to introduce teenagers and youth to the more detailed parts of the civil rights movement.
