it was amazing
bookshelves: favourites, magical-realism
Read in March, 2012

I read this in one sitting - although it is book number 5 in the series the author maintained the sharp dialogue, character continuity and surprises that drew me to the series in the first place. This may be a spoiler, but this is the last book in the series, and it was a satisfying conclusion - I loved the future she mapped out for the characters (even leaving the door open for a series of books about the character Prudence - and the "name" issue made me laugh out loud) and I was dazzled with the imaginative way she handled the trip to Egypt, the Queen of Alexandria (and, another spoiler) she managed to loop together an amazing historical figure, a well known Queen/King, into a believable book/timeline tie in. The pace was great and the novel kept shifting between Egypt and London creating a tension that had me up very, very late into the night to finish the book. I am SO glad that I read this series - with salutes to some of my other favourite authors/characters (Elizabeth Peters/Amelia Peabody and even Amelia Edwards the source for even Elizabeth Peters)...just wonderful - and I do see myself, as with Elizabeth Peters works, rereading this series...awesome steampunk/Victorian/romance/adventure addition......

Jennye I was wondering if I was the only one who saw the Amelia Peabody nods...
