I haven't read the second book in the Howl's Moving Castle series, but looking at how the third book is structured, I think the three books stand together more as companions, and can be read separately.

This was really disappointing, mostly because by the end of the book I had no idea why the book had been titled the way it is. There are some amusing bits about housework and cooking, but other than that, most of the story was rather bland, with the folklore/magic/mythology not making a whole lot of sense to me. This is probably the only book I've read (in recent memory at least) where the protagonist's love for reading actually grated on me rather than endeared herself to me...
